Alice Hugy was born in Switzerland in 1876 and emigrated to the United Sates in 1882. Her initial artistic training began at the St. Paul's School of Fine Arts; she later traveled to New York City for further study. Hugy returned to St, Paul, Minnesota, where she opened the city's first art gallery and became a well-respected, successful artist.
