Einar Wegener (Lili Elbe)
Danish (1882-1931)
Einar Wegener was born in Vejle, Denmark in 1882. Wegener studied art at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and in 1907 won Denmark’s Neuhausens prize. He exhibited at Kunstnernes Efteraarsudstilling, as well as at the Vejle Art Museum. The couple travelled throughout Italy and France before settling in Paris in 1912. In 1924 Wegener’s work, which included landscapes, interior scenes, still lifes and portraits, was shown in Paris at the Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Independants.
