Albert van Holsbeeck

(1877-1948)

Albert Van Holsbeeck was born in Brussels in 1877 and died in Etterbeek in 1948. He was a painter, draftsman, graphic artist, illustrator, and miniaturist. Van Holsbeeck was educated at the Academies in Antwerp and Brussels. As a Belgian post-impressionist, he specialized in landscapes, still lifes and portraits capturing his subjects in colorful, broken brushstrokes. Van Holsbeeck was also regarded by Sander Pierron as one of the most skilled woodcarvers of the early 20th century. He was a member of the Société des Miniaturistes Belges. His works are in the collections of  the Bruges Print Room in Brussels and the British Museum.
