Laurens Plas
Dutch (1828-1893)
Laurens Plas was born in 1828 in Alkmaar in the Netherlands. His father and brother were also artists. Plas’s bucolic scenes reveal an idealized view of country life that combines the influence of the Barbizon school with the Dutch seventeenth century tradition. The simplicity of the composition contrasts with his dramatic treatment of the light and with his palette, which is more Romantic than Realist.
