Jose Amat Pages
Spanish (1901-1991)
Jose Amat Pages was born in Barcelona in 1901. In 1917 he began studying drawing at the Ateneo Obrero and in 1920 he entered the Escuela de la Llotja in Barcelona. Amat’s first group exhibition was in 1922, and he had his first solo exhibition in 1928. He exhibited individually in the most important galleries in Barcelona and won prizes in the Barcelona Spring Salon and National Exhibitions. Amat traveled to Paris for the first time in 1933 and became known there in 1936 when he showed his art in a group exhibition. He taught landscape painting at the Barcelona School of Fine Arts from 1942 to 1970 and joined the Sant Jordi Royal Catalan Academy of Fine Arts in 1981.
