Judith Colby Magyar is a graduate of Indiana State University and the University of Arkansas. Earlier in her career she taught elementary and secondary art in Maine public schools. Under the guidance of Robert Kingsley, Professor of Art at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, she has been painting professionally since 1985 and works primarily in oil.
Magyar has exhibited as the solo painter in shows at The Gallery in Bloomington, the Poplar Street Gallery in Greencastle, Indiana, and at the Putnam County Public Library. In 2000 her submission to the Hoosier Salon (Indiana’s premier competition for professional artists) received an award for outstanding work in any media; in 2001 her submission received a purchase award; and her 2002 submission received the Isabel White Award for Outstanding Contemporary Oil.
Magyar visits Maine every summer, capturing the midcoast’s quiet rural farmlands, infusing the scenes with a soft, glowing light. Her work is in private collections in California, Indiana, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington.
