Andre Gisson

American (1929-2003)

Born Anders Gittelson, painter André Gisson adopted the brush name Gisson to emphasize his connection with the French Impressionists. Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1921, Gisson studied at Pratt Institute and traveled widely, painting throughout Europe and the Far East. Over four decades, Gisson’s one-man shows extended from New York, Washington, Texas and California to London, Paris and Tokyo.

Gisson’s paintings are held in collections of the Smithsonian Institution and Triton Museum of Art in North Carolina.
