Gilbert, who worked in oils as well as gouache, watercolor, and pastels, frequently painted portraits and other figural works, but also earned a prominent reputation as a fine painter of lively Parisian streetscapes and market scenes. Today, GilbertÃÂs works are included in the collections of many museums throughout France.
