Otis Cook

American (1900-1980)

Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts painter Otis Cook lived in New England throughout his life, residing primarily in Rockport, Massachusetts. Cook received his artistic training at the Swain School of Design in New Bedford and under the tutelage of the well-known marine painter Emil Gruppe in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Cook was a well-affiliated member of the local art community, holding memberships in the Salmagundi Club in New York City, the Guild of Boston Artists, the Rockport Art Association, the North Shore Art Association from 1940-1980, the Academic Artists in Springfield, and the Independent Artist in Boston. During his career Cook exhibited his works, often winning awards for his entries. He received a gold medal in addition to other prizes from the Jordan-Marsh Co. between 1952 and 1955 and again in 1958, plus awards from the Rockport Art Association and the Springfield Academic Artists. Cookís paintings can be found at the Springfield Museum of Art as well as galleries and private collections.
