Robert Brackman
American (1898-1980)
Brackman was born in Odessa, Russia in 1898, and emigrated to the United States in 1908. He completed his artistic studies at the Ferrer School in San Francisco, and also studied with George Bellows and Robert Henri at the National Academy of Design. Brackman was a member of the American Watercolor Society, the Arts Student League, Connecticut Academy of Fine Art, and the Royal Society of Art. His works can be found in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Delaware Art Center, Minneapolis Institute of Art among others. Brackman concentrated on portraits, becoming very well-known and painting notable people such as John Rockefeller Jr. and Charles Lindbergh. Along with painting, Brackman was a dedicated teacher, instructing at the Art Student League, the American Art School in New York City, the Brooklyn Museum School, the Lyme Art Academy and the Madison Art School in Connecticut.
