Florence White Williams
American (1888-1953)
A painter, teacher, designer, and illustrator of children’s books, Williams was born in Putney, Vermont and lived in Chicago, Illinois, and Greenfield, Massachusetts. She studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Art and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with Henry Snell, John Carlson, and Ames Aldrich. Williams was an active member of the South Side Art Association in Chicago and the Illinois Academy of Fine Arts. She also exhibited her works at the Art Institute of Chicago.
While living in Massachusetts, Williams traveled inland to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, as well as to the coast of Maine, staying in Boothbay Harbor and capturing the local landscape.
