Paul Wieghardt
American (1897-1969)
Wieghardt was born in Germany in 1897, where he remained for his artistic training. He studied at the School of Fine Art in Cologne as well as at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden. While in Europe, Wieghardt exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Tuileries, the Salon d’Automne and the Paris Salon. He later settled in Chicago, Illinois, and exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and the Library of Congress. Both the Berkshire Museum and the Springfield, MA Museum of Art held solo exhibitions of his works. The Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, NY, the Berkshire Museum and the Smith College Museum of Art hold works by Wieghardt in their permanent collections. Along with being a painter, Wieghardt was also an art instructor at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1946-1963.
