Marie Weger
American (1882-1980)
German-American artist Marie Weger (1882-1980) was born in Munich, Germany and began studying art with her father in her hometown. She continued her studies in Paris and later moved to New York state, living in both New York City and the smaller towns of Harrison and Mt. Vernon. Weger maintained an international reputation throughout her career as she belonged to artistic societies in the United States as well as France and Germany. Her trademark floral and fruit still lifes were featured in numerous exhibitions in Paris, Vienna, Munich, and New York, including the prestigious Kennedy Galleries, while her portraits of notable world figures, such as Eleanor Roosevelt, were also widely appreciated. Today, as testament to Weger`s international reputation, the Munich city hall owns one of her works.
