Jules Jacques Veyrassat
French (1828-1893)
Born in Paris in 1828, Jules Jacques Veyrassat completed his artistic training with artists Lehmann and Faustin Besson. His works were exhibited in the Paris Salons beginning in 1848, where he won medals for his contributions in 1866, 1868 and 1872, plus the Legion of Honor in 1878. Collections in museums throughout France, including Lyon and Reims, include paintings and etchings of VeyrassatÃs hand. Veyrassat was known for his renditions of animals, particularly horses. Due to the subject matter he pursued, capturing the rural countryside of France and the working animals and people in it, Veyrassat is aligned with the Barbizon School.
