Henri van Seban
Belgian (1825-1913)
Henri van Seban was born in Brussels in 1825. He was a pupil at the Academy of Den Haag, studied with Hubertus van Hove and at the School of Xylography in Den Haag. An accomplished portrait artist, he was also highly regarded for his landscapes, charming genre scenes and lithographic work. Van Seban exhibited frequently throughout his lifetime, with works shown at Den Haag, Antwerp, Brussels, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Leuven and Liege, the 1893 World’s Columbian Exhibition and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
