Frederick Louis Thompson
American (1868-1933)
American painter and sculptor Frederic Louis Thompson (1868-1933) was born in Middleboro, Massachusetts and later pursued his artistic career in both MarthaÃÂs Vineyard and New York City. He studied under respected teachers George Herbert McCord and Salvatore Bilotti and gained membership in the Salmagundi Club as well as the Societe des Beaux-Arts. Thompson also attended the Swain Free School of Design under the direction of Robert Swain Gifford, a highly successful and respected landscapist and etcher who remained a powerful influence on the landscapes of Thompson throughout his career.
