George Stimmel was an American painter, lithographer, etcher, illustrator and designer. Born in Hackensack, New Jersey, in 1880, he studied at the Pratt Institute of Art and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Stimmel worked as a set designer at the Metropolitan Opera and was a member of the Scenic Artists Union. He also exhibited his work at the Salmagundi Club and Salons of America. His artwork typically depicted landscapes and scenes of daily life. He also made a large series of etchings of New York City landscapes and cityscapes.
