Frank Spradling
American (1885-1972)
Born in Rush County, Indiana in 1885, artist Frank L. Spradling taught composition and design at the Chicago Academy of Fine Art and the Chicago School of Applied and Normal Art. A well known land and seascape painter, he also had illustrations published in the Ladies Home Journal, Delineator, Designer, McCall’s, Saturday Evening Post, as well as for Zane Grey’s books for more than twenty years.
Spradling was the President of the Hudson Valley Art Association and maintained commercial studios in New York City and New Jersey. His works are held in the permanent collection of the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
