Harry Shaw
American (1897-1989)
Born in Philadelphia in 1897, painter, illustrator, art educator and block printer Harry Shaw attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Cleveland School of Art, University of Michigan, Ohio University and Stanford University. He established the Art Department at Ball State University in Indiana and also taught at Miami University, Ohio.
Shaw was a member of the Columbus Art League and Longboat Key Art Association. He exhibited at the Salmagundi Club, Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts, Society of Independent Artists, Butler Art Institute, Institute of Cultural Relations, Mexico, Columbia Museum of Art, South Carolina and Columbus Museum of Art, Ohio, among others. Shaw’s works are held in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington D.C.; Museum of Modern Art, Mexico City; Akron Art Museum, Ohio; Lord Neuffield Foundation, London; Canton Museum of Art, Ohio; Ford Motor Company, Michigan and the Library of Congress, Washington D.C., among others.
