Julius Scheurer
German (1859-1913)
Julius Scheuerer was born in 1859 in Munich. Like his brother, Otto Scheuerer, he was a successful animal painter. Scheuerer studied at the Academy in Munich for a short time although he preferred to be self-taught. The artist’s work focused on the depiction of domestic birds and hens or on wildlife in a natural setting. His oeuvre shows mainly colorful flocks of birds in different constellations arranged in a decorative courtyard, on the edge of a field or by a small pool. The artist had a keen eye for detail and an understanding of his animal subjects which allowed him to imbue his birds with life and emotion. He exhibited in Hamburg, Munich, Dresden, Berlin and Basel, Switzerland. Scheuerer spent his final years living and painting in Planegg, Germany.
