George Jan Hendrik Poggenbeek

Artist Georges Jan Hendrik Poggenbeek was born in Amsterdam on July 20, 1853. A painter of genre scenes, animals, pastorals, and landscape, Poggenbeek received his artistic training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam. During his career, Poggenbeek traveled extensively in France, mainly spending time in Brittany and Normandy. He exhibited actively during his lifetime, winning international recognition for his expertly rendered works, including a medal in Berlin in 1896 and a bronze medal at LÃExposition Universite in Paris in 1889. A member of the Haye School, PoggenbeekÃs works can be found in public and private collections on both sides of the ocean, including those of the National Museum in Amsterdam and the Municipal Museum in Amsterdam.
