Arthur (attributed) Parton
American (1842-1914)
Born in New York City in 1842, Parton received his artistic training with William Trost Richards as well as at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. Parton moved to New York City in 1865, and kept a studio on 10th Street for over 20 years. Parton became an associate member of the NationalAcademy in 1871 and a full member in 1884. He also held membership at the American Watercolor Society and the Artists Fund Society. Parton exhibited his works extensively throughout his career, showing at the National Academy of Design, Corcoran Gallery, Brooklyn Art Association, the Boston Art Club, the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition in 1876, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, the St. Louis Exposition in 1904 and the Art Institute of Chicago. Well-known as a Hudson River School artist, Parton visited Europe in 1869 and was influenced there by the Barbizon School.
