Joseph Oppenheimer
German (1876-1966)
Born in Bavaria to a family of artists, Oppenheimer began painting at an early age. He studied at RoyalAcademy in Munich, and in 1896 moved to London where he set up a studio in Chelsea. He was a member of the Chelsea Art Club, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the International Society of Artists, and traveled frequently to paint throughout England, Europe, Canada and the United States. His works were exhibited at the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburg, the RoyalAcademy, as well as at the Munich International Exhibition in 1904. Known for his portraits, as well as his works of the English landscape, Oppenheimer’s works are a blend of both impressionist and modernist styles.
