Saint Clair Augustin Mulholland

American (1839-1910)

Born in Lisburn, County Antrim, Ireland in 1839, soldier, artist, author and lecturer Saint Clair Augustin Mulholland emigrated to America with his family as a boy. A decorated officer of the American Civil War, Mulholland was a Brevet Major-General in the Union Army and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for gallantry in action.

Following the war, he travelled to Europe to pursue his artistic ambitions, painting throughout Italy, France and England. A listed artist, Mulholland painted landscapes, castles, coastal and maritime scenes.
