Carl Eugene Mulertt
American (1869-1915)
Landscapist and genre painter Carl Eugene Mulertt (1869-1915) was born in Brunswick, Germany and immigrated to Cleveland, Ohio with his mother in 1882. He returned to Europe to pursue artistic studies at the Academie Julian in Paris, where he worked under the instruction of noted teachers Benjamin Constant, Jules Joseph Lefebvre, and William Adolphe Bouguereau. Mulertt continued to live and paint in Europe, eventually settling in Katwijk, Holland, and frequently sent works back to customers in the United States. He exhibited at the annual shows of the Paris Salon for many years throughout the 1890s.
