Ernst Frederick Meyer
American (1863-1952)
Born in Germany, Meyer lived most of his life in New York City. Meyer studied with noted American painter William Merritt Chase at the artist’s Tenth Street studio, and also attended Chase’s Shinnecock Summer Art School on Long Island. Chase’s instruction at Shinnecock turned Meyer to landscape painting, for which he became most well known.
A member of the Salmagundi Club and the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, Meyer exhibited at the National Academy of Design, the Boston Art Club, the Brooklyn Art Association and the Salmagundi Club.
