Peter Bela Mayer
American (1887-1993)
Born in Hungary, Mayer immigrated to the United States and studied art at the National Academy of Design from 1908 to 1915. After completing his studies, Mayer settled in Long Island. He became known for his impressionist landscapes of New England, often traveling to the Cape Anne area of Massachusetts. Throughout his lifetime, Mayer’s works were exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC in 1914, as well as Pennsylvania Academy of the fine Arts, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Brooklyn Museum.
