Born in Austria in 1819, Josef Mansfeld studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Mansfeld began exhibiting widely in 1845. The grandson of engraver Joseph Georg Mansfeld, the artist is best known as a painter of genre scenes, portraits and still lifes.
Mansfeld’s work was included in posthumous exhibitions at the Mint Museum of Art in North Carolina and University of Southern California in Los Angeles. The artist’s works are held in the Oscar and Maria Salzer collection.
