Mary Nicholena MacCord
American (1864-1955)
Originally from Bridgeport, Connecticut, artist Mary Nicholena MacCord was born to a wealthy Bridgeport merchant. She traveled throughout Europe, capturing scenes with vibrant colors and an impressionistic styling reminiscent of Maurice Pendergrast.
MacCord settled in New York City, and exhibited her works widely, including in shows at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the National Academy of Design, the Baltimore Watercolor Club, Society of Independent Artists and the Corcoran Gallery. MacCord was a member of the American Watercolor Society, the National Association of Women Artists, and the New York Watercolor Society.
