Henri Leopold Levy
French (1840-1904)
French painter Henri Leopold Levy (1840-1904) was born in Nancy and later moved to Paris, the city in which he worked and exhibited throughout his career. As a student, Levy attended the Academie des Beaux-Arts, where he received artistic guidance from noted teachers Francois Edouard Picot, Eugene Fromentin, and Alexandre Cabanel. Following these studies, he participated in the exhibitions of the Salon de Paris beginning in 1856 and earned medals for his submissions in 1865, 1867, and 1869. Levy also received a first class medal at the 1878 Universal Exposition in Paris. His works are now part of the permanent collections in museums across France, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Musee des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
