Maurice Levis
French (1860-1940)
Maurice Levis (1860-1940) was born in Paris and studied painting under the guidance of noted artists and teachers Henri Joseph Harpignies, Jules Lefebvre, and Pierre Billet. He became a member of the Salon des Artistes Francais in 1888 and continued to participate in the societyÃs yearly exhibitions throughout the remainder of his career. Levis earned an honorable mention for his submission in 1896, a success that was quickly followed by a bronze medal in 1896 and culminated in the gold medal of 1927.
