Lucile A. Kaltenbach
American (1901-1997)
Born in Durban Natal, South Africa in 1901, Lucile Kaltenbach emigrated to the United States, settling in Illinois. She studied at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago under John Norton and J. Allen St. John. Kaltenbach continued her studies abroad at the Academie Lhote in Paris. Following her time at the Academie, Kaltenbach returned to Chicago and exhibited at the Woman’s World Fair in 1928 and at the Annual Exhibition of Works by Chicago and Vicinity Artists at the Art Institute of Chicago.
A painter, illustrator and writer, Kaltenbach was a member of the Art Students League in Chicago, and, in 1926, won the Rogers Park Woman’s Club Prize at the Art Institute of Chicago. Kaltenbach’s work can be found in the Vanderpoel Collection in Beverly, Illinois.
