Joseph B. Kahill
American (1882-1957)
Kahill was born in Alexandria, Egypt in 1882, and studied art in Paris, where several of his portraits were exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1909. Kahill came to America as a young man and settled in Portland, Maine. There he became a member of the Portland Society of Artists, and exhibited his works at the Society of Independent Artists in 1917 and 1920, as well as having a solo exhibition at the Portland Museum of Art in 1943. Works by Kahill are part of the permanent collections of the Portland Museum of Art and the Maine State Capitol, as well as the Sweat Memorial Museum, and the art museums at Bowdoin, Bates and Colby Colleges.
