Augusto Junquera
Spanish (1869-1942)
Artist Augusto Junquera was born in 1869 in the northern Spanish province of Asturias. In 1897, Junquera was awarded a scholarship to attend the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid and between 1901 and 1910 participated in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in Madrid. Beginning in 1917 Junquera taught at the University of Oviedo, where he befriended artists Paulino Vicente, Nicolás Soria, Eugenio Tamayo and José Pérez Jiménez.
Junquera exhibited his work at the Sixth Biennial of Avilés and in 1954, the University of Oviedo presented a posthumous retrospective of his sketches and paintings. His work is held in the permanent collection of the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias in Oviedo.
