Jean Joyet
French (1919-1994)
Jean Joyet was born in Saint-Victurnien, France in 1919. A painter and sculptor, his works range from still life paintings to genre and animals, and often have a playful, abstracted quality. “Spring Still Life” is a bold and colorful rendition of a vase of daisies and irises set upon a red tablecloth; the piece has a sculptural quality to it as Joyet builds up the paint to add a three-dimensional texture to the scene.
Joyet’s works have been exhibited at the Parisian Salon Comparaisons, which was founded in 1954 in an attempt by a group of artists and sculptors to bridge the gap between figurative and abstract art, and at the Salon d’Automne and Salon des Independants, where he held memberships. His works are in the permanent collection of the Musee des Beaux-Arts in Limoges, France.
