Aldro T Hibbard
American (1886-1972)
Born in Falmouth, Massachusetts, Hibbard received his early artistic training at the Boston Museum School with Edmund Tarbell and Frank Benson. Before devoting his life to painting and teaching art, Hibbard was an avid baseball player, invited to play professionally.
Hibbard traveled to Europe from 1913-1915, having won the Paige Traveling Scholarship due to his artistic talent. Upon his return to the United States, Hibbard resided in the Cape Ann, Massachusetts area and spent his winters in Jamaica, Vermont. Hibbard was one of the original founders of the Rockport Art Association School of Drawing and Painting, and the Rockport Art Association occupies what was once his studio. Beginning in 1915, he was also an instructor in the Art Department of Boston University. Hibbard was a member of the National Academy, Salmagundi Club, Rockport Art Association and others, exhibiting throughout New England.
Hibbard was best known for his impressionistic paintings of New England.
