Kurt Herdan
American ((Austrian, b. 1926))
Born in Austria in 1926, Kurt Herdan studied at the School of Fine Arts in Bucharest, Romania and then pursued post-graduate studies in the workshop of Jakob Eisenscher at the School of Fine Arts in Jerusalem, Israel. Herdan traveled through France, Greece and Italy eventually settling in Chile in 1955 where he worked as a professor of drawing and composition at the Fine Art Academy in Santiago. In 1968, Herdan began teaching at the School of Applied Arts and School of Design at the University of Chile, where he was appointed Dean of Fine Arts in 1975.
Herdan has participated in exhibitions throughout the world, including the British Chilean Institute of Culture, Chile; Gallery Beaux Arts, Chile; Gallery Schaub, Germany; Fair Lausanne, Switzerland; Painting Biennial, Uruguay; University of Chile; Cultural Institute of Providencia, Chile and Official Hall of Art, Tel Aviv, among others. HerdanĂ¢â‚¬â„¢s works are held in the permanent collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art at the University of Chile and University Art Gallery in Talca, Chile.
