George Wainright Harvey
American (1855-1930)
Born in 1855 in East Gloucester, Massachusetts, Harvey was a self-taught artist who had a lifelong connection with the Cape Ann area. Harvey married Martha Hale Rogers, a photographer, in 1886, and together the couple toured Europe, where Harvey studied and painted. While in Holland, Harvey was made honorary member of the Royal Dutch Society of Artists and the Pulchri Club of the Hague. Upon his return to the United States, Harvey continued to paint, exhibiting his works at the J. Eastman Chase Galleries in Boston, as well as at the Boston Art Club and the Gloucester Society of Artists.
