Joseph Beckwith Hartranft

American (1890-1982)

A plein air painter and teacher, Hartranft was a member of the Peconic Bay Impressionists, a group of painters who explored and depicted the area around the North Fork of Long Island. Joining Caroline Bell, Julia Wickham and others, Hartranft made many excursions to the North Fork of Long Island and intoNew England, including to Rockport, Massachusetts to paint with Emile Gruppe. Hartranft was the leader of the Tuesday Art Club with founding members Larry Waitz, George McAdams, John Kaelin and Gilbert Miner.
