DeWitt Hardy
American (b. 1940)
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Hardy has spent much of his artistic career capturing the Maine life and landscape in his art as well as enriching the artistic culture throughout the state. Hardy is nationally known for his watercolors, drawings and set designs which range from still-lives and portraits to exquisite landscapes. He has also exhibited widely including seventeen one man shows in New York City and his representation in forty-two museums, most notably the British Museum, the Smithsonian, the Cleveland Museum and the San Francisco Museum.Hardy is also a renowned educator and supporter of the arts. He has instructed at both the University of Maine in Augusta and the Heartwood College of Art in Arundel, Maine. In addition to these positions, Hardy was also the curator and associate director of the Museum of Art of Ogunquit. Clearly, whether in the classroom or the studio, this noted figurative watercolorist has worked to benefit the arts throughout his artistic career.
