John Nichols Haapanen
American (1891-1968)
John Nichols Haapanen was born in Niantic, Connecticut, in 1891. Haapanen studied under noted American artists Ernest Lee Major, Walter Francis Brown, and Anson K. Cross and was a member of the Boston Art Club and the Copley Society. Haapanen maintained a strong association with Boothbay Harbor, Maine as an artist and a teacher throughout his career. In his painting, Haapanen focused primarily on landscapes and coastal scenes. His works are included in the collections of Tufts University and Dean Academy.
