Lois Goldstone
American (1926-2010)
Goldstone was born in Paris, France on January 12, 1926. She spent her childhood in New York City, raised a family of five children in Scarsdale, NY, and moved with her husband to Maine in 1972. After having spent many years raising a family, Goldstone’s art career began when she moved to Bangor in 1975 and began studying art at the University of Maine. Soon after, Goldstone and her husband settled in Boothbay, Maine on a saltwater farm, which became their home for nearly 35 years. The fields, marshes and ocean viewed from the farm, and in the surrounded Boothbay area, provided endless inspiration for Goldstone’s oils and pastels. Goldstone’s paintings are particularly well-known for their brilliant skies, which infuse her scenes with a timeless magic.
Goldstone regularly enjoyed many one-person shows and exhibits in regional juried shows including at the Chocolate Church, Bath, the Maine Art Gallery, Wiscasset, and the Boothbay Region Art Foundation. She was President of the Art Foundation in Boothbay Harbor from 1992 through 1996, and was chosen by Governor Angus King to create his holiday greeting card from the Blaine House.
