Gustav F. Goetsch
American (1877-1969)
A native of Gaylord, Minnesota, Gustav Goetsch (1877-1969) was a painter, printer, and teacher. He began his artistic training at the Minneapolis School of Fine Arts, continued to study at the New York School of Art under William Merritt Chase, and attended the Academie Julian in Paris. Goetsch spent the majority of his career working near St. Louis, Missouri, where he belonged to several area art associations and frequently exhibited his work. In addition to painting, drawing, and printmaking, Goetsch also taught young artists at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Art Students League, and Washington University in St. Louis. Today, his works are part of the collections at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Worcester Museum of Art, among other American institutions.
