Oronzo Gasparo
American (1903-1969)
Oronzo Gasparo was born in Rutigliao, Italy in 1903 and studied at the National Academy of Design in New York City where he was influenced by American painter Preston Dickinson.
Gasparo worked for the Works Progress Administration (WPA) during the Depression and exhibited widely throughout his lifetime, including exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, Oakland Art Gallery, 1939 New York World’s Fair, Art Institute of Chicago, Carnegie Institute, Corcoran Gallery and Whitney Museum of American Art, among others.
Gasparo’s work is held in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Museum of Modern Art.
