Francis Seth Frost
American (1825-1902)
Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1825, Frost traveled extensively throughout the United States during his career, from California to Missouri as well as on an 1859 trip with artist Albert Bierstadt to the Rocky Mountains. However, Frost also spent much of his time in New England, painting the rugged mountains of New Hampshire, the coast of Maine and the Catskill Mountains and Hudson River Valley of New York.
Frost exhibited his works at the Boston Athenaeum, as well as at the Boston Art Club, where he was a founding member. In the 1860s, Frost had settled with his family in Arlington, Massachusetts and ran an art supply firm located in Boston. A well-known and respected landscape artist, Frost was also a photographer.
