Alexander George Fraser, Jr.
Scottish (1827-1899)
Scottish artist Alexander George Fraser, Jr. (1827-1899), son of renowned artist Alexander George Fraser, Sr., commenced his artistic studies at the Trustees’ Academy in Edinburgh. He maintained a focus on Scottish subjects and landscapes until the 1850s, when he left the country to travel and paint throughout Wales. After returning to Scotland, Fraser discovered his primary inspiration in the scenery of Cadzow Forest, Loch Lomond, and other Scottish locales, where he concentrated on the effects of changing light and season in the forest and on the heather. Fraser earned an associate membership in the prestigious Royal Academy in 1858 and became a full member in 1862.
