Thomas Goldworthy Dutton

British (1820-1891)

Thomas Goldsworthy Dutton, born in London in 1820, is considered one of the finest nineteenth century marine lithographers and painters of nautical scenes and ship portraits. His paintings of clipper ships, created generally for his lithographs, were quite popular in his time. His work was exhibited at Suffolk Street Gallery between 1858 and 1879. Much of his work was for the lithographic company, Day and Haghe.

Dutton’s work is in the collections of The National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, England, the Royal Collection and the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.
