Spencer Douglass Crockwell
American (1904-1968)
Born in Columbus, Ohio, Spencer Douglass Crockwell lived in Glens Falls, New York for a large part of his life. He studied at Washington University and the Academy of Arts in Chicago. Crockwell is best known for his illustrations and advertisements for the Saturday Evening Post and for murals and posters for the Works Progress Administration (WPA). Crockwell showed his work at the Pennsylvania Academy of Arts, Art Institute of Chicago, and the Museum of Modern Art, among others. He received a number of awards during his lifetime.
