Thomas Bigelow Craig
American (1849-1924)
A native of Philadelphia, Thomas Bigelow Craig studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and began exhibiting his paintings at the age of 20. Craig’s paintings of animals among gentle streams and summer landscapes were very popular and sold well during his career. He earned associate membership in the National Academy in 1897 and was also a member of the Artists’ Fund Society and the Chicago Watercolor Club. Craig participated in the annual shows of the National Academy of Design for 45 years and exhibited his works for many decades at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Boston Art Club. Today, his work is included in the collections of the Newark Museum, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, among other American institutions.
