Delbert Dana Coombs
American (1850-1938)
Born in Lisbon Falls, Maine, Coombs studied with artists Scott Leighton and Harrison Brown. Coombs also worked as a photographer, sign painter, worked at a Boston engraving company and was a teacher. Although he traveled to and worked briefly in Boston, he returned to Maine and settled in Lewiston, where he painted the landscapes and animals of Maine. He exhibited his works at the Society of Independent Artists and his works can be found in the collections of the capitol building in Augusta, Maine, Yale University and Bates College.
